Textile exports from Thailand from January to May 2008 were $2.9475 billion,
up by 7.9% from the same period last year, owing to a significant growth in synthetic
filament/staple.
The total exports of spun and woven products including yarn and woven fabric
and products besides garments amounted to $1.58180 billion, up by 11.5% from
the same period last year, which far outstripped the rise in textile products
as a whole. The exports of woven products increased by 5.8% to $497.8 million.
Of those woven products, synthetic fabrics increased by 10.4% to $276.2 million,
but cotton fabrics remained at $172.7 million, a drop of 4.5%. The exports of
spun yarn come to $354.3 million, up by 6.7%, and synthetic filament/staple to
$237.3 million, up by 19.7%.
On the other hand, the exports of garments and accessories amounted to $1.36570
billion, up by 3.9%, which fell below the rise in textile products as a whole.
For only garments, it was $1.1981 billion, up by 2.2%. For exports by material,
synthetic garments were $317.7 million, up by 8.9% and cotton garments were $524.6
million, a drop of 1.9%.
