Japan dyeing firms run into financial crisis as raising processing charges does not make desired progress.

The Japanese dyeing industry is in a crisis as a result of soaring world oil prices. According to reports on the latest financial conditions in the dyeing business released by the leaders of each regional branch at the ordinary general meeting held by the Japan Association of Wholesale Dealers in Dyes and Chemicals in the New Miyako Hotel in Kyoto (Japan) on June 9, there are many firms which are facing financial difficulty being unable to effect raises in processing charges matching the increasing prices of heavy fuel oil, dyestuff and various finishing agents for textiles. It was pointed out that many dyeing firms would be driven out of business unless companies ordering dyeing finishing accept appropriate finishing charges.

Sales for ink-jet printing increase in Kanto region
in dyestuff dealer, Toya Senryo’s business.

Toya Senryo dealing in dyestuff in the Tokyo/Kanto region has recently had lower sales of dyestuff to dyeing firms, but higher sales of ink-jet related products approaching 45% of the total.

More ink-jet printing has been employed due to cost rises from soaring fuel prices and to avoid the burden of wastewater treatment costs, which seems to have changed the character of their business significantly with the sales of necessary materials for ink-jet printing.

Moririn (H.O.: Ichinomiya-shi, Aichi), Maruichi-Seni (H.O.: Itoigawa-shi, Niigata) and Toray have jointly developed “MILLION DIA,” a high quality, high-class spun yarn, and started both domestic and export sales as textile or garments for 2007 spring/summer.

Characteristic of MILLION DIA

According to the announcement of the three companies, Moririn, Maruichi-Seni and Toray, “MILLION DIA” is a special composite spun yarn with a concentric sheath/core structure which combines Lenzing’s “Lyocell,” “ Modal,”fiber, and Toray’s special hollow polyester and filament like 3GT composite yarn with Maruichi-Seni’s unique “3-D special composite spinning technology.”With this special spinning technology, “MILLION DIA” has high quality characteristics such as less irregularity of yarn thickness, pilling resistance after washing, excellent dimensional stability, does not skew, even when a used as a single yarn, and wrinkle resistance.

Additionally, it is a material with a feeling of lightness which gives it appealas clothing, having not only a soft hand but moderate tension and firm texture when it is made into a textile.

“MILLION DIA” can have various new characteristics according to chosen combinations of “Lyocell”, “Modal” and filament. For the future, they are planning to develop an environment-responsive product which is combined with recycled polyester and polylactic acid (PLA) fiber, taking advantage of their features using “Lyocell,” an ecological fiber.
